A ‘label’ … it can mean a numerous amount of different things…

  • It can be a practical tool, like telling us how to wash that specific item.

  • It can tall us what compounds make up the garment (and by law: A textile product consisting of two or more fibres accounting for 85% of the finished product must be marked with the fibre followed by a percentage - for example, 'cotton 80%, polyester 15%, nylon 5%'..

  • It will tell us where that product has been produced.

  • For a significant amount of companies a label can signify a hefty price tag that comes with a status of a brand name… An item of branded sports wear, for example, can cost an individual hundreds of pounds.

  • The same goes for high end couture items… the label has a powerful connection to signify status or wealth, or that someone is in the fortunate position to be able to afford ‘this season’s’ must have item… A label also tells us so much more, when we really look at it, when we decide we want to know the truth…

And thats exactly what I want to celebrate with you today - the vast array of labels here in Gweni Gwyllt that tells you everything you NEED to know! Nothing makes me happier than seeing customers actively looking at the labels and say out-loud ‘Oh, wow, made in Britain!’, ‘Oh this is made where I was born!’ Or, as many customers say with a sense of relief in their voice: ‘FINALLY SOMETHING MADE HERE!’ - it makes my heart so happy that others are equally as passionate about supporting our designers and our British manufacturing industry and that fundamentally, a label is SO IMPORTANT!

I have twenty female founded business here in Gg now, and I will happily (and gladly) tell you everything about each Designer! Being transparent and giving a you context into each product is vital… because it’s a privilege isn't it really… to be in the fortunate position to buy something … so if you’re willing to invest in an item, then it is my responsibility to provide all the information and quite frankly, not even an almond croissant beats the joy I get when I show a customer a label and point out the ‘Made in Wales’ bit!

So, for some, a label means one thing, but to me - a label is everything.

Cariad Mawr / Big love and happy Autumn to you all,

Rx
